Back to back victories for I Am Kalani in Australia.

Purchased in conjunction with Canberra-based trainer Nick Olive Racing at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, I Am Invincible filly I Am Kalani has been in great form, taking out two races over the space of two weeks on the Acton track at Canberra.

With a third placed finish over 1080m in late June, the well-bred filly started over the same distance and track on July 14.

Ridden by Jeff Penza, I Am Kalani jumped well from the middle of the line, before she was restrained and pulled across the heels of the leaders to settle on the fence.

With the leading duo ensuring plenty of speed up front, the lightly raced filly travelled sweetly in the run before starting to make up ground 600m from home.

Coming off from around the leader’s heels, Penza asked his filly for an effort and she responded impressively, pulling away to take the victory by over three lengths.

Backing up two weeks later at the same track, over 1206m, Penza was once again in the saddle.

Jumping a clear length ahead of the rest of the field from the barriers, I Am Kalani maintained her lead for a few hundred meters before she was taken on and able to settle in second position.

When the field went for home, Penza pulled her out and they once again took the lead.

Holding the runner-up at bay for the entire straight, I Am Kalani recorded back to back victories for her connections and highlighted her class.

With two wins and a third from just four starts, the filly has shown very good ability and is one to watch for the future.
