Baffert Goes Bang At Kranji

Becoming the third Premier Racing Partnerships private purchase to win this year in Singapore, the victory of the Cliff Brown-trained Baffert highlighted once again the extensive work put in by PRP to source quality tried racehorse from Australasia.

Having had a handful of starts in Australia for trainer Mick Price, the son of Exceed And Excel had won at Geelong, but it was his most recent few starts that had the PRP team very keen to secure the gelding.

A fifth at Flemington, followed up by two third placed efforts at Moonee Valley had highlighted that he had clear city winning ability, just what was needed to win in Singapore.

With his Australian form being franked through the winner Farson going on to claim the Group 2 Autumn Classic at his next start followed by a third in the Group 2 Alister Clark, and the second horse Rising Red, going on to run second in the Group 1 New Zealand Derby to Gingernuts with Jon Snow in third – the form proved he was clearly with securing!

Now in the stable of Group 1 trainer Cliff Brown, Baffert was having just his third start in Singapore, racing for the Premier Racing and Forever Lucky Stable, the 4-year-old gelding went into the 1100m race on the polytrack off a solid hit out in a barrier trial behind Mr Colin, who had won earlier in the night by four and a half lengths so connections were somewhat confident of a forward showing.

Jockey Michael Rodd jumped Baffert away from barrier three where the pair went forward and found themselves about four lengths from the leader, settling on the rail.

Just before the home turn, Rodd started to ask Baffert for an effort, and after finding a gap, he worked his way through it before extending away to take the lead and pull away for a comfortable two and a quarter length victory from Preferred, with the third horse Sure Win a further length and a quarter away.

We would like to congratulate our fellow owners in Baffert and if the strength of Friday night's win is anything to go by, then we have an exciting horse for the future.
